Leaving People Work

Your data belongs to you, including when you decide to leave. If People Work no longer fits how you want to work, you should be able to keep what's useful and move on.
Save a Copy Before Deleting

We’ll show the connection instructions that match your choice.
Before deleting your account, use an agent to export the data you want to keep. Open and check the saved files before continuing with deletion.
An agent-created export is a readable copy of the information the agent can retrieve; it is not a complete workspace backup you can restore into People Work.
- Open an approved client and let it finish syncing.
- Connect your agent and ask it to make a copy using the prompt below.
- Review the proposed contents, format, and destination before approving.
- Open the saved files. Check that they contain the relationships and journal history you want to keep, and review anything the agent could not include.
Help me create a read-only copy of everything available in @People Work. First,
explain what you can include, what you cannot include, and the format you will
use. Do not add, edit, or delete anything. Wait for my approval before creating
the copy, then save it to a location I choose and tell me about anything you
could not include.
The saved files are outside People Work's encryption. Choose a location you trust. Your agent provider's handling of this information also follows the boundary explained in Your Data, Your Tools.
Before deleting your account, use the terminal client to save the information you want to keep. Open and check the saved files before continuing with deletion.
For example, people contact list lists contacts, and
people contact show --help explains how to open a contact's details.
people entry list --help shows the options for finding journal entries.
These are individual read operations, not a complete export. Lists can be filtered or paginated, so a single result may not contain everything. If you need help collecting the information you want to keep, contact support before deleting your account. We can explain the available tools; we cannot decrypt the workspace for you.

Cancel Your Subscription
If you subscribe, cancel with your billing provider before deleting your account. Deleting People Work or its account does not cancel your subscription.
Delete Your Account
You will need access to your account email. Before you start, open your saved files and make sure you have what you want to keep.
Deleting your account immediately makes it inaccessible and revokes its clients. People Work removes local account data as those clients process the revocation. Cloud data is scheduled for permanent deletion within 15 days. That time is for processing; it does not give you a way to undo the deletion.
- Open Manage Account and choose Delete Account. In the terminal, run
people account delete. - Read the review screen, including any subscription reminder, and continue when you are ready.
- Enter the verification code sent to your account email.
- Type the confirmation phrase exactly as shown and choose Delete Account.
You can also contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account information. Our Privacy Policy explains how, including the billing and operational records we retain and why.
