What is People Work?

People Work helps you build the relationships that move your career or business forward and help others move forward too. It helps you decide where to focus, take meaningful action, and follow through. Learn how People Work works.

Who is it for?

People Work is for people whose next professional opportunity depends on relationships. That includes solopreneurs, consultants, and entrepreneurs building a business through referrals and word of mouth, and job seekers looking for introductions and opportunities. It helps you focus on the people you can help and who can help you. See who People Work is for.

Is People Work a CRM or social network?

People Work is like a CRM with people at the center instead of deals. It’s built for individuals who want to develop relationships through regular, purposeful interaction and help each other succeed. You use it privately to decide who to reach out to, why it matters, and what you can do for each other. The goal is to turn that intention into real conversations, introductions, and opportunities. Read about contacts in People Work.

Do I need to add my whole professional network?

Please don't. People Work is about quality over quantity. Start with ten to twenty people who matter to what you are trying to accomplish now. You can add, move, deactivate, or reactivate contacts as your goals and relationships change. Add the people who matter.

What are groups?

Groups help you decide where to focus your time and attention. Contacts usually start in Network. As a relationship develops a clear role in your goals, you can move that person into Align (stakeholders), Partner (peers), or Guide (people you guide). Keeping these four groups encourages you to be selective about which relationships you invest in more deeply. Read more about groups.

What's the difference between an event and a commitment?

Events are interactions, like meetings, 1:1s, conversations. Commitments are promises, something you committed to do, or something someone committed to do for you. Read more about actions.

Do I have to journal every interaction?

Yes. If an interaction isn’t important enough to record, remove it from People Work. For the ones that matter, a journal entry can be very brief. Capture what happened and anything you want to remember or follow up on. If writing feels like a chore, try talking it through with your AI agent, especially in voice mode. Read more about journal entries. Connect your AI agent.

Which platforms does People Work support?

Use People Work in three ways: on your desktop (Windows and macOS, or the terminal on Linux), on mobile (iPhone and iPad, with Android coming soon), or through AI agents using MCP. Install People Work on your desktop. Set up People Work on mobile. Connect your AI agent.

How much does it cost?

People Work is free on one physical device. End-to-end encrypted sync across unlimited devices costs $20/month or $200/year. The annual plan saves $40. Using the desktop app and an AI agent on the same physical device still counts as one device. See the pricing page for details.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. You can use People Work on one physical device for free, including connecting AI tools through the local People Work MCP server. Pay only when you want to keep multiple devices in sync.

How do I add another device?

To add another device, sign in on it and approve it from a device you already use. You control the encryption keys, so each new device needs your approval before it can access your data. Learn how to sign in. Learn how devices and sync work.

Can I use People Work while I am offline?

Yes. An approved device with your data saved locally can keep showing and saving your work without a connection. The app will tell you that it’s offline. When the device reconnects, it sends its pending changes, receives changes from your other approved devices, and brings your data back up to date. Read about offline work and sync.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Manage your subscription in Account Settings. From there, follow the link to your payment provider: Apple subscriptions for iOS, Stripe for desktop, or Google Play for Android. Read about subscriptions and billing.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Canceling your subscription stops future renewals. It does not delete your account or data. To delete them, use Account Settings in People Work. Read what cancellation changes.

What happens if I return to the free plan?

When you return to the free plan, you keep using People Work on the device you make the change from. Your data stays available on that device. If you want to delete your account and data completely, you can do that through Account Settings as well. Read about returning to the free plan.

Where is my data stored?

People Work stores your data in encrypted form on your approved devices and on our servers, hosted by DigitalOcean in Frankfurt, Germany. Your approved devices hold the encryption keys, so we cannot read your contacts, journal entries, or other private data. See DigitalOcean’s Frankfurt, Germany location. Read Privacy and Your Data.

What information can People Work see about my account?

We can see your name and email, your subscription and payment status, and limited usage information, such as how often People Work syncs your changes. We also keep basic records to secure your account. We cannot read your private data. See the complete list in our Privacy Policy.

Can my employer see my data?

People Work encrypts your workspace on your device and while syncing it, and we do not give your employer access. But encryption cannot protect information while you are viewing or typing it on an unlocked work machine. Employer monitoring software may capture keystrokes, screenshots, or other activity. We advise that you understand your company's monitoring policies. If privacy is a concern, use a personal device and do not store your employer's proprietary data in People Work. Read more about privacy and your data.

What should I do if a device is lost or no longer trusted?

Open Account Settings on another approved device and revoke the lost or untrusted device. If you lose access to all your devices, you can recover your account on a new device using your email and the recovery key you received when you registered. Read how to remove a device. Read about account security and recovery.

What is my recovery key, and what happens if I lose every approved device?

Your recovery key lets you recover your account if you lose access to all your devices. You receive it when you register, so save it in a password manager. Recovery requires both your email and that key. If you lose access to all your devices and lose your recovery key, we cannot restore your data. Read about account security and recovery.

How do I delete my account and data?

Choose Delete Account in People Work. The app shows you what will be affected, verifies the request through your account email, and requires an exact confirmation phrase before it proceeds. Successful deletion immediately makes the account inaccessible and revokes its clients. Cloud data is permanently deleted after a processing period of up to 15 days. Deleting the account does not cancel an Apple, Google Play, or Stripe subscription, so cancel that separately with the provider. Read the deletion details.

What happens to my data when I use AI?

When your agent calls a People Work tool, an approved client returns the requested information to that AI session. Whether the provider stores it between sessions or uses conversations to improve its models depends on your AI provider's settings, not ours. Before connecting an agent, review its privacy controls. Where those controls are available, turn off model training and choose the shortest retention period the provider offers. Once information enters an AI session, that provider's terms apply. Read more about AI and your data.

Do I need AI to use People Work?

No. The app works completely without AI. The AI integration is an optional enhancement for people who want a conversational assistant. See how AI fits in.

Which AI tools are supported?

We support ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Desktop, and Claude Code through People Work plugins. Other AI tools can connect through our local MCP server or command line, including tools that use local models. Connect your AI agent.

How do I disconnect an AI agent?

Disable or remove the People Work plugin or local MCP configuration in that AI tool. If you want to block access temporarily, choose Lock in People Work. The first time you lock, the app asks you to create a private key passphrase. You will need that passphrase to unlock the workspace again, and an AI agent cannot unlock it for you. Removing an AI connection does not delete your People Work workspace. Learn how to lock and unlock your workspace.
