Tasks help you track the decisions you've made about your relationships. We show you tasks by default because we want the actions you're taking for yourself and your contacts to stay top of mind.

There are two types of tasks:

Schedule Tasks

These tasks appear when you haven't defined an action for yourself or a contact and prompt you to schedule one. Defining an action completes the schedule task. The action's schedule puts the work back in front of you when it's time.

Schedule tasks give you confidence that you have a plan for everyone in the system.

If planning an action for someone feels like a chore, set some intention to connect with that person six months from now, or better yet, deactivate the contact. See Contacts for guidance on deciding who belongs in People Work.

Journal Tasks

Each date on an action's schedule is an occurrence. It appears as a journal task and becomes due on that date, prompting you to reflect on the action.

Completing the task creates a journal entry containing your observations, sentiment, and comments. See Journal Entries for examples and guidance on journaling with People Work.

Due Dates

Tasks can be due, future, or completed. A task is due when its assigned date arrives, and you can always reschedule it. Future tasks preserve what you decided without demanding your attention yet. Completed tasks remain available as a record of what you finished.

In fact, we encourage you to reschedule! Just as you can never know exactly how much you'll spend in every budget category, you can't predict every interaction you'll have or when it will happen. People Work gives you a private place to adjust the plan. If that feels like a lot of work, use voice mode while taking a walk, and you'll be done in no time!
