Everything Clicked: My People Work Assistant

By Annie Hedgpeth ·

V2 update: This article describes the V1 integration available when it was published. People Work V2 connects compatible AI tools through a local MCP server. A synchronized V2 workspace is encrypted on approved devices and on our servers, which do not have the keys needed to read it. Information an AI tool receives is still handled according to that provider's settings and privacy policy.

If you know me, you probably think of me as a bit Type-A...okay, maybe a lot. But honestly, I don't feel like that's "just who I am" but rather a coping mechanism for my forgetfulness. I'm hyper-vigilant because if I don't respond to that text right away or schedule that meeting right now, then I'll forget about it forever. (That is why I keep a Full Focus Journal, too, where I write things down for later.)

We recently released our AI agent integration, and for the first time, I feel like I don't have to hold all of the context all of the time in my head.

So I've been using People Work for a couple of years now, and it's been so good for me to stay intentional about people that I want to show up for. But wow did things change when we implemented AI integration. I am not exaggerating, and I hate to sound like an AI-hype person; I really do. But everything clicked. All of a sudden, I could prepare for a meeting with the full context of my relationship journal, my work tasks, my goals, my company philosophy, my values, my calendar - my life! Not only that, but I could plan for my week, my quarter, and my year with all of that context. As a good assistant, not a life coach, Claude would also point out relationship health and ask me what I wanted to do about it. There were a few people that I was in denial about, so I had to make some decisions, which freed me up to spend my time on things that mattered. All the dots got connected.

The setup was surprisingly simple. I connected my Apple Calendar and gave the agent a little context about who I am and how I work. That's it. (If you're curious about the technical details, I'll cover that at the end.)

You may be wondering if I'm absent-mindedly sending all of my relationship data to train the AI models, but don't worry; I did ensure my privacy settings were set properly and so should you. (See the docs.) People Work is already private since all the data is on my local machine (nowhere else). So I have a safe place to be vulnerable and introspective, and I have been getting so many insights from it, like where to spend my limited energy.

What we built in our People Work Agent is an Assistant, not a therapist, not a life-coach, not even a friend. I, for one, do not want Claude to be that for me because I fear I'll lose clarity on my life if I'm not in the driver's seat. This agent knows that it's there to assist me (and you) in growing our own relational intelligence, not outsourcing it to AI. The agent will always be professional and encouraging, but it'll always be focused on the next action.

If you're not the technical type and are wondering when we're going to have AI integration in the app, don't worry; it's top of mind. The problem is that Apple Intelligence just isn't where it needs to be right now. We're not going to slap a generic chatbot into the app just to check a box. When AI shows up in People Work's UI, it'll be done right.

If you are technically inclined, then give it a spin. Under the hood, we've created a CLI that does everything in the app, so your AI agent just calls the CLI - easy peasy. I connected my Apple Calendar with a few short scripts and used a single markdown file to give the agent context about who I am and how I work. You can see the docs here to see if your preferred agent is supported. If it's not, just email us.
